This is a great resource, thanks for putting so much effort into compiling this data.
But what should we make of all the judges with only 1 or 2 clerks listed? Don't they all hire 4? Do some judges get by with 1 or 2 clerks? Or does this just reflect incomplete data?
It can reflect either. The list does not track how many openings a judge has in a given year. It is more likely than not that a judge with only 1 or 2 clerks listed has others unreported; however, many judges may have an additional secretary or a career clerk that reduces their annual hirings.
